“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.” 1 John 2:1-2
The Advocate
I don’t think everything we dream while sleeping is some deep message from God, but I do sit up and take notice when a dream rocks my world. That’s what happened the other night.
I dreamt I was walking down a long hallway lined with many faces—people from my past, people I’d worked with, gone to school with, even some family members. You’d think this would be a happy experience, but to my dismay and alarm, their faces were stone cold. Their judgment, even disgust, was palpable as I cowered in their presence.
Soon, a man came to the front of the line of people and shouted, “Yes, condemn her NOW! There’s no hope!” The deep fear I felt extended beyond the dream world as I began to shake. “Unless…” he continued, “unless there’s an advocate. Is there an advocate in the house?”
Everyone looked around, from one to the other. Who would stand up for me? Not one, not even one of these so-called friends would stand with me. I was definitely doomed.
Then, from the back, someone yelled, “Wait! There IS an advocate!” Relief flooded my very being as I realized someone was going to be my advocate, my legal representative in this evil tribunal. I strained to see in the distance who it might be that would stand with me.
As I began to wake up and remember that my only Advocate was the Lord Jesus Christ, unbelievable tears of relief, joy and thanksgiving washed over me. Oh, yeah, that’s right, I do have an Advocate!
“Thank You, Jesus, for being our Advocate, our Savior, and taking our place on the cross. We now have new life and the promise of eternal life with You. We are no longer condemned! Hallelujah! How can we thank You enough for what You’ve done? Amen and amen!”
Praising Jesus with you! He is our advocate, our rescuer, redeemer, and deliverer!!!
Awesome. Thanks for sharing.
God knows his sheep. You were never far from his grasp. Praise God, in ‘Jesus name. Amen
