“Now you are the body of Christ and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:27

What Is Your Assignment?

I think we can all agree, many times life does not go as planned.  It was not part of my plan that my mom would be called home when I was a teenager. It was also not part of my plan that several years later my dad would succumb to cancer. However, it was part of God’s plan. Thankfully, during the earlier years of our lives He had knit my brother and sisters and me together with the strongest bond: faith in Him. After our earthly dad passed away, we sat together and realized we were going to have to step up our game and step into new roles of responsibility.

Now, if you knew my siblings, you would know that we bring humor into most situations. Being that my brother was the oldest of the five, as well as being sensible and smart, he would be now be known as the President of our family; my sister a few years younger than Mr. President was chosen as Vice President; of course we would need a Secretary, third sister; then comes me. All eyes were upon me for a few seconds until they all said “Chaplain!” Oh, how we laughed. (If I recall, baby sister was the Treasurer.)

I was among the first to step outside the customary faith practice that we had growing up when I began attending a very different style of church. In turn, it was pretty apparent that I was more vocal about my faith, my prayers, etc. You get the picture…I was a bit zealous and excited about my newfound home church and my Lord, and it showed! Although we joke a lot about it, they may never know how deeply it touched my heart.

I am ever so grateful that although I have a long way to go in growing and maturing in my walk with the Lord, I can be used by God. I heard somewhere that God does not call the qualified, he qualifies the ones He calls. I don’t have to be strong enough, smart enough, or articulate enough; if He wants to use me, He will equip me (1 Corinthians 1:26-31), and He will equip you too.

Our time on earth is relatively short. He has told us to redeem the time (Colossians 4:5).  Sisters, you have a part in His plan. We all have some sort of gift that He has given us that He intends to be used for His glory in His kingdom. The question is, are we willing to spend the time to figure out what our gift is? Are we willing to invest the time it may take to offer our lives to spread the word of what we have found and to show love in tangible ways by being His hands and feet by loving on His people? (Romans 12:6-8). Whatever our part is in His plan, whether we consider it big or small, it’s important and it is precious to God.

“Heavenly Father, thank You that no matter how we think of ourselves, You say we are worthy of being used in Your kingdom. Help us to identify our gifts and assignments, that we may be used for Your glory. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.”
