“It is God’s privilege to conceal things and the king’s privilege to discover them.” Proverbs 25:2
Hide and Seek
I have always said that yogurt is my favorite food. Several years ago, I discovered plain Greek yogurt. I topped it with honey, and from the first bite, I was hooked. Since that moment, Greek yogurt with honey has been a staple in my diet. So I was delighted one day when I opened my Bible and read: “By the time this Child is old enough to choose what is right and reject what is wrong, He will be eating yogurt and honey” (Isaiah 7:15).
I had read through the Bible before, but never had I noticed this verse. It is a verse talking about Jesus as a child, and it says that He ate yogurt and honey. Upon reading this, I felt like God was whispering a little secret into my ear. “I ate the same food that you eat!” I felt like He was telling me something about Himself for no other reason than to be known by me in this way.
This Scripture tells us something of God’s divinity through His humanity. He was raised eating the same food as all of the other children in the region. But unlike the other human children, He chose right and rejected wrong.
God wants to reveal things about Himself to all of us. “I revealed Myself to those who did not ask for Me, I was found by those who did not seek Me. To a nation that did not call on My name, I said ‘Here am I, here am I'” (Isaiah 65:1).
I believe that many of the things God wants us to discover about Him are hidden in such a way that we must search for them. I don’t think He is trying to frustrate us, but I think He wants us to actually desire to know Him. He doesn’t want us to feel content with knowing the little that we know now. He doesn’t want our knowledge of Himself and His word to ever be complacent. As long as we are alive, Jesus wants us to keep searching for more of Him. “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
Our relationship with the Lord need never be stale or boring. Though He and His Word will never change, our Savior is very much alive. His word is very much alive as well. Things that are alive can move and do unexpected things. You can read the same verse several times and learn something new each time. “For the Word of God is alive and active…” (Hebrews 4:12).
Let us never think we know all that there is to know about God. Keep seeking Him with all of your heart. He wants to be known.
“Dear heavenly Father, may we continue to seek and find all You long to show us about Yourself. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
Thank you for the encouragement!
How special it must have been to read that! Very sweet and inspiring that He spoke that to you 😀
