“Who is able to advise the Spirit of the LORD? Who knows enough to give Him advice or teach Him? Has the LORD ever needed anyone’s advice?” Isaiah 40:13-14a NLT
Advice
Doesn’t reading that just make you stop in your tracks? That’s ridiculous! Of course the answers to those questions are: a) no one and b) no, He never has.
Yet, how many times do we find ourselves doing those exact things? Praying for the outcome of something the way we think it should turn out, not thanking God for His endless wisdom in already knowing exactly what needs to be done in any and every situation. Instead of asking for His will to be done, don’t we often try to impose what our wills want done?
My advice to all of us this week is let God handle it. Whatever relationship or situation you think God could use that extra little bit of help with… surrender it. Trust that He is big enough and knows enough to get it done in His timing and His way. Let’s purpose to spend time instead praising the God Who, we are told a few verses down in Isaiah 40:26, “created all the stars and brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of His great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.” If He does that with the stars, I think it’s safe to say He can take care of whatever needs we have, don’t you?
“Dear Lord, forgive us for those times when we try to give You advice about how You should handle things in our own or others’ lives. Help us to yield to Your perfect will, trusting and praising You instead. Amen.”
