“Therefore anyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24-25
A Family’s Foundation
Sometimes, in the morning before I am awake enough to pray, I will already be panicking about something or other. This happened to me one morning last week. The cares of this world seemed to be all around me. I started to pray, “LORD! It feels like all of these things are about to come crashing down upon my family, and if they do, they will completely drown us; there is no way we can save ourselves once all of these things begin to crash upon us.” Immediately in my spirit, I sensed the LORD reminding me that while it was true that there were harsh winds blowing all around my family, never once had they actually taken us out, because we had made the LORD our foundation from the beginning.
I married my husband only after consulting the LORD in prayer about it. But even if that is not the way your family began, you can make Jesus your family’s foundation this day. It begins with a simple prayer. Ask Him to be the Lord of your life, sovereign over every decision you face. Keep His Word in your heart, and follow what it says.
Remember that He is originator of marriages and families, and HE does indeed want your family to thrive (Malachi 2:16, Mark 10:7).
I do believe that He cares about the situations in our lives. But I also believe that He wants us to come to Him with our concerns. He wants us to trust Him despite what we see. He knows what He is building in and through us. We need only to keep coming to Him, keep trusting Him, keep seeking Him.
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘what shall we eat?’ or ‘what shall we drink?’ or ‘what shall we wear?’ For the pagans pursue all these things and your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you” (Matthew 6:31-33).
“Dear heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus is our sure foundation. Thank You that we can trust You with every aspect of our lives. Please help us to trust You even when everything looks scary and we don’t see any positive solution. We will wait and rest in You. In Jesus’ all-powerful Name, Amen.”
Good reminder! Thank you!
Very good! Thank you!
These days are scary no matter your age or situation. I’m so thankful that I can go to Jesus
with my concerns, whether you’re a newlywed or an 80+ person, as I am. A dear friend dropped by this afternoon for a visit. She lives by herself without even a cat and admitted she didn’t even want to go home because there wasn’t anybody there. Money is a big problem, and paying for
insurance. But she decided to visit the housebound people of the church and learned how to counsel and console others and now her life is busy and much happier. What a blessing she is!
Thank God for her life and mission.
