“Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasures for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” 1 Timothy 6:18-19 NIV

Our God-Given Legacy

We serve a God who never leaves us

He tells us He will be here for us.

His promises are true and real,

And the Holy Spirit is our seal.

Because we know He will not leave,

We can help others to believe.

As we live to bring Him glory,

This will be a living story.

Living our lives for all to see,

Will be our God-given legacy!

I wrote this poem when I was inspired by the Our Daily Bread devotional reading for November 16, 2019. I realized that our study of the Book of Ruth in Her Bible Study worked its way into the poem as well.

We have seen in Ruth that her obedience, perseverance, loyalty and love influenced all who were around her. We are learning that when we are willing to take that first step out of our comfort zone, not only will we be blessed, but also those around us, not to mention those to come.

We may never know how far-reaching our influence may be when we live in obedience to God. He can use us for His glory, and what a legacy that would be.

Lord, help us be focused on You at all times, trusting You to lead and guide us to have the most positive influence on those You have put around us. Help us be loyal, trustworthy, and loving. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
