“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” Psalm 107:1

Good God, Bad God

I was watching the news awhile back and listened to a distraught mother who just went through a tragedy, and her words struck me. At one point she said she didn’t believe in God and a few minutes later said that she prayed to God that the culprits of this tragedy would be caught. My heart broke for her, for what she was going through, but also for the mindset she was struggling with towards God. In one breath she said He doesn’t exist, and in another she prayed to Him for help.

This is too often the mindset of our world: be mad at God but also ask Him for help. Deny there is a God, but need His existence to help get through a tough time. We live in a lost world, a confused world, a double-minded world.

May I just encourage us today as believers in God, to make sure we don’t fall into the same pattern of the world. When hard times come, don’t blame God for doing this to us, yet then ask Him to fix it.

In the good times and the bad times we go through on this earth, He remains the same. He doesn’t flip flop back and forth. He is faithful and true, He is just and fair, He is mercy and grace, He is the beginning and the end—all at the same time. In the good times, praise Him. In the hard times, cling to Him. He is a good God, always, in all things.

“Lord, in the hard times and the good times, You are there for us. Give us eyes to see Your faithfulness, Your love, and Your protection in every situation we face. May our hearts soften to You in the hard times, not become embittered towards You. You are a good, good God and we will praise you. Amen.”
