“And Jesus said, ‘Who touched Me?’…Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately.” Luke 8:45-46

His Eye Upon the Sparrow

Sometimes I think I am invisible. Because I have a quiet nature, I am often overlooked or ignored. For me, it’s not as bad as it may sound. I am comfortable with “flying beneath the radar.” I am not implying that anyone is rude or arrogant. I am content with being lost in the crowd.

The woman in our verses was using the crowd to hide. She wanted to be lost in the crush of the multitude. She had a mission and that was to get to Jesus. He was all she had left. Her money was gone. Her health was failing. Her social life was strangled by her affliction. I imagine that she was lonely—and desperate.

She had been forsaken by culture and religion and medicine and maybe even family. She was hidden. Hidden in the confines of her own home. Hidden from festivals and feasts. Hidden from sight. Her affliction had made her unclean. She was ignored and abandoned. Jesus was all she had left. He was her only hope.

So she dared the unthinkable. She camouflaged herself in the crowd and sought to touch Jesus with a determination that would not be denied. She broke all the rules. She confronted the lies that had bound her for so many long years.

Are you feeling invisible? Forsaken? Ignored? You are not hidden to Jesus. He sees you there and asks, “Who touched Me?” Not because He does not know your name and your heart, but because He wants you to emerge from whatever affliction is holding you hostage, whether emotional or spiritual or physical.

We are sometimes like children who cover their eyes and think because they can’t see anyone, no one can see them. God sees. He sees it all. He is calling you. He has felt your touch upon His heart.

Come trembling to fall before Him. Declare your heart, your desperation, your daily struggle. He will meet you there at your point of need. You are known and you are loved.

“Father, when all abandon us and resources run out, You remain sure and steadfast. You see every move we make. We will fight through the crowd to get to You. We will dare the unthinkable and break all the rules. We are desperate for You. Thank You for help in the time of trouble. In Jesus name, Amen.”
