Careful Listening<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A Mini Devotional<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026you who fear God, listen:\u201d<\/em> Acts 13:16b<\/p>\n

My son\u2019s dog will never be known to be in possession of great brainpower. He is basically a sweet, zealous, dumb animal.<\/p>\n

But one thing he knows is his master\u2019s voice, as I witnessed on a recent visit. They play a bit of a game at mealtime. My son puts the dog\u2019s food down but makes him sit awaiting the signal to eat.<\/p>\n

My son will say, \u201cPete<\/strong>.\u201d The dog will sit looking intently into his face.<\/p>\n

Then, \u201cLet\u2019s meet<\/strong>.\u201d No movement from the dog.<\/p>\n

Next: \u201cYou have big feet<\/strong>.\u201d The dog waits. His tail does not wag\u2014dinner is serious business.<\/p>\n

This goes on for some time with all sorts of words that rhyme with \u201ceat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finally, my son will have mercy. \u201cEat,\u201d he says quietly. You can imagine how the dog leaps to his feet and wolfs down the food.<\/p>\n

Though God will not play these tricks on us, how I want to hear my Master\u2019s voice in just the same way! Expectantly. Carefully listening for His exact words. Not mis-hearing Him or misunderstanding His intent.<\/p>\n

Lord, grant us open ears and clear understanding of what You say. Amen.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>
