Stacks of Promises<\/strong><\/h2>\n

“He who promised is faithful!”<\/em> Hebrews 10:23<\/p>\n

Growing up in Galveston, Texas, my mother and I were at church pretty much every time the doors were open for a service.\u00a0Important foundations were built in my life during those early years\u2014things that have stayed with me for decades. I’m amazed that I’ll remember something from my childhood seemingly \u201cout of the blue.\u201d\u00a0A thought, a song, an experience, a memory, a testimony will come to mind just when I need it.<\/p>\n

That happened this week. I had some hard things to deal with.\u00a0As I was pressing through and dealing with each one, a song came into my mind that we often sang in our church when I was a young girl.<\/p>\n

\n

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
\nThrough eternal ages let His praises ring,
\nGlory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
\nStanding on the promises of God.<\/p>\n

Standing, standing, standing on the promises of God my Savior,
\nStanding, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.<\/p>\n

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
\nWhen the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
\nBy the living Word of God I shall prevail,
\nStanding on the promises of God.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As that song went through my mind, I pictured those promises being like a solid rock that I cling to. I could hold onto it when the storms come.\u00a0His promises are strong and secure.\u00a0I’ve been singing the song all week.<\/p>\n

Then this morning I woke up with another one, I think from my Sunday School days:<\/p>\n

\n

Every promise in the book is mine,
\nEvery chapter, every verse, every line,
\nAll are blessings of His love divine,
\nEvery promise in the book is mine.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

With this song I saw a stack of books in my mind’s eye, every book representing a promise. The stack was huge\u2014higher than I could hardly see. The numbers vary according to how they’re counted, but the general consensus is that there are up to 8,810 promises.\u00a0That’s a lot of promises that we can stand on!!<\/p>\n

I thought of a few that are particularly meaningful to me:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • His mercies are new every morning.\u00a0Lamentations 3:22,23<\/li>\n
  • His grace is sufficient for every need, and His power is made perfect in our weakness.\u00a02 Corinthians 12:9<\/li>\n
  • His plans are to give us a future and a hope.\u00a0Jeremiah 29:11<\/li>\n
  • If we are weary and burdened, He will give us rest.\u00a0Matthew 11:28,29<\/li>\n
  • When we are weak, He will help us with new strength. We will run and not be weary, walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:29-31<\/li>\n
  • He gives a peace that the world can’t give.\u00a0John 14:27<\/li>\n
  • He will supply every need; He’s my provider.\u00a0Philippians 4:19<\/li>\n
  • He will hold us with His righteous right hand.\u00a0Isaiah 41:10<\/li>\n
  • He will never leave us or forsake us.\u00a0Deuteronomy 31:6<\/li>\n
  • If we lack wisdom, He will give it. James 1:5<\/li>\n
  • He is the God who heals us. Exodus 15:26<\/li>\n
  • He is my husband. Isaiah 54:5<\/li>\n
  • He gives power to the faint.\u00a0Isaiah 40:29<\/li>\n
  • He shows us the way to walk. Isaiah 30:21<\/li>\n
  • I’m never alone. Joshua 1:5, 9<\/li>\n
  • He is my protector.\u00a0Psalm 18:2-4<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    My heart was encouraged this week as I thought of all the wonderful promises of the Lord.\u00a0There is a promise for anything we will face.\u00a0He knew what we’d need, and He promised to provide for that need.\u00a0How good He is! I rest secure in His loving care.<\/p>\n

    Father, You saw ahead to our every need, and made provision for us. Thank You!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>
