This place has always been my “happy place” where I can truly rest, breathe in new air and new life into my soul, and recharge my senses for another year until we return again. I found out that the dynamics of this place may be changing and all of a sudden I panicked, realizing that I may be losing my happy place. I was so worried. I became fearful of letting go of what was once so precious to me.

I confessed my fears to a faithful friend. She encouraged me to journal my fearful feelings and pray, asking God to reveal what was going on with me. I followed her advice and pressed in deeper. I was reminded that I have the power of God living inside of me through His Holy Spirit. I can choose to respond and believe that wherever God is, that is where I want to be, and I can choose to be happy. As Christian women, we are taught to be humble and not to be self-seeking, but I see God desiring for us to also be happy and joyful in Him and it’s okay to enjoy something amazing He has brought into our lives without feeling guilty or undeserving, or feeling that I shouldn’t desire it because it’s not a spiritual thing, but a material thing or place. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (James 1:17).

I am shifting my thinking today and I am choosing to believe that wherever God has me right now in my life, I am choosing to make that place my “Happy Place!” It may look different a week or a year from now, but as long as I’m connecting with God through a personal, ongoing relationship with Him, it’s okay to be confident in what He is doing in me and through me and to be happy there. Wherever the Spirit of God is—and He is in me—can be my happy place. I can choose to believe it and accept it, no matter where on earth I am.

Where is your happy place?
