Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” John 15:12-13

Training To Love

This week Living Room began the important task of training our 51 new staff members who will help to lead our Kimbilio Care Center in Eldoret. We are taking three weeks to orient our new team on all that Living Room is about. I feel especially passionate and committed to instilling the culture of excellent care within every team member.

This morning I had the privilege to be with one of our current guests at Kimbilio Hospice in Kipkaren. His name is Moses, a 28-year-old man who had a car accident nearly two years ago. He came to Kimbilio because of his extensive wounds that needed our care. But he also came because he needed to be reminded that he is more than just an “accident victim.”

I was encouraged as he shared about the day he arrived to Kimbilio Hospice. He explained he was sitting out in the garden area around lunchtime when, to Moses’ surprise, one of our groundsmen named Joshua stopped his work to ask him if he had already been fed or needed any help. Moses repeated again, “In this place, even the gardener cared about me. I began to ask myself: am I at home or a hospital?”

Living Room’s vision of creating a community of compassion demands every team member recognize the importance of their role on the team. I love that Joshua, our groundsman, is a highlight in Moses’ journey. The opportunity Living Room has to be a part of honoring life, restoring dignity and offering hope is a great privilege. As we expand our reach into new areas, please pray with me that God will enable each one of us to continue in this vision. On April 8th, we will be ready to welcome our first guests in Eldoret.

Thank you so much for your continued support of Living Room that allows this vision of loving to be a reality.

To our readers: This ministry update was written by Juli Boit of Living Room Ministries. We want to share it with you because it is a recent, vivid testimony of loving well, this year’s Bible study theme. Those who follow Christ into loving others are all on the same team. We work together to reach a common goal. Not only that, but God has given all believers the same Spirit. We are not so different from each other as we sometimes think!

“Father, may we all love well in whatever place, time, or calling You put us.
