Later thinking back on this vulnerable encounter, I realized more than ever before how I had clung to my Rock, Jesus Christ. It was an automatic response and made me realize that I don’t have to fear—I can trust my strong foundation in Christ.

This had stirred up a lot of my past mistakes in my “B.C.” days. The enemy was swaying me towards unforgiveness. After seeking the LORD, He assured me I had been in His care and pleasure these years and I can move on, and enjoy fully, where He has delivered me to—my life now. It was a new freedom discovered! A veil lifted.

There are many places in the Bible where the Rock of refuge is spoken of, but (today) my favorite is Exodus 33:21-22: “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by.”

God’s perfect protection—even from the full-on revelation of His glory as in the above context. We don’t have to fear. He has us. Of course, He also gives us His wisdom, but we can trust our LORD in His sovereignty and love that any unexpected situation or God-directed encounter we find ourselves in, He provides that Rock of refuge to stand on. He even covers us with His hand.

This encounter has given me a new freedom, with fresh faith to love Him and others. I’m still praying and learning, but in His protection I can “love bigger,” knowing He knows my vulnerabilities and will heal, using all things for His good. I can live obediently in His pleasure, and completely realize the truth in these Psalms:

“The LORD is my Rock and my fortress and my deliverer. My God, my strength, in whom I will trust” (Psalm 18:2).

“Be my strong refuge, to which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me. For You are my Rock and my fortress (Psalm 71:3).

What confidence we have in our LORD, our Savor, knowing He gave all His love to us at Calvary. We can be assured He is our strong refuge that we can resort to no matter what hard time we are going through. We can encourage a friend in trouble, or in our day-to-day encounters. He is our Rock and defense, and an ever-present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1).

“Father God, thank You for Your strong, firm Rock you give us in Christ.
