HIS WORD<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cSo don\u2019t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today\u2019s trouble is enough for today.\u201d<\/em> Matthew 6:34 NLT<\/p>\n

One Day at a Time<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/em>HIS EXAMPLE TO US<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

In this chapter, Jesus teaches us to please God and not to receive pats on the back for our good deeds. He teaches us how to pray for God\u2019s will to be done, for food, and to be forgiving, which comes with a stern warning that if we will not forgive others, that God will not forgive us. Now there is food for thought! Jesus continues by instructing us to lay up treasures in heaven, for where our treasure is, there our heart will be also. Skipping down to the last verse, Jesus commands us not to worry. He doesn\u2019t suggest we try<\/strong> not to worry, but do not worry<\/strong>! We need to take this command seriously.<\/p>\n

MY STORY<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not easy to take one day at a time, and not to worry about tomorrow. The bombardment of media and advertising conjures visions of what could happen tomorrow. But friends, since we do not know what the future holds, what good does it do to worry? Don\u2019t you find that the things we worry about happening tomorrow usually don\u2019t even happen? (Or at least not at all like we anticipated).<\/p>\n

We flew to Aruba for a sales conference for my husband\u2019s new job. Our suitcases did not arrive, but worrying about when they would arrive did not expedite their arrival. Then there was the time when the company was downsizing and we all wondered who would receive a pink slip. Worry did not change the outcome. An illness had overtaken a loved one and we had to wait for a phone call one day at a time. And there was the surgery that went wrong and we were stuck at home for a very long period of time. Healing would come in God\u2019s time, so we took one day at a time.<\/p>\n

MY RESPONSE<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Tomorrow is never promised to us. God has numbered our days but He hasn\u2019t let us in on the secret. We need to be ready one day at a time, to obey when He calls whether it be to write a letter or a card, make a phone call, bless a neighbor, or to go to our eternal home. I don\u2019t want to take tomorrow for granted. I want to live each day as if it were the last. Tell people I love them, appreciate who they are, and let them know that they are important to me and I love having them in my life, and thank them if they have helped me along my path.<\/p>\n

MY PRAYER<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em><\/strong>I love that I can trust You, Lord, one day at a time. Tomorrow You have not promised, but Lord, with You, I can do all things. Nothing can happen to me today, Lord, that together You and I cannot handle.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
