Try as I might, I can\u2019t really wrap my head around the vastness or the strength of the Lord. He must have a pretty enormous hand for the breadth (or width) of it to mark off the heavens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In comparison, the handbreadth or width of a person\u2019s hand has been standardized to equal four inches, and is used, among other things, to measure the height of a horse (i.e., the horse stands \u201c20 hands\u201d).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And as for the days of man: <em>\u201cBehold, You have made my days as handbreadths, and my lifetime as nothing in Your sight; surely every man at his best is a mere breath. Selah\u201d<\/em> (Psalm 39:5 ESV).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As I sit staring at my own handbreadth, I am so in awe of God I can hardly breathe. In the light of an eternal God our lives are nothing\u2026 and yet, with all that power, all that strength, <em>\u201cHe will feed His flock like a shepherd, He will carry the lambs in His arms, holding them close to His heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with her young\u201d<\/em> (Isaiah 40:11 NIV).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Revelation 7:17 tells us, <em>\u201cFor the Lamb on the throne will be their Shepherd. He will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.\u201d<\/em> The same hand that holds the oceans will wipe away our every tear. Amazing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The words to the Casting Crowns song \u201cWho am I\u201d* comes to mind:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cWho am I, that the Lord of all the earth<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Would care to know my name<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Would care to feel my hurt?&#8230;.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Who am I, that the eyes that see my sin<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Would look on me with love<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">And watch me rise again?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Who am I, that the Voice that calmed the sea<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Would call out through the rain<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">And calm the storm in me?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And the answer is given in the two choruses:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cI am a flower quickly fading<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Here today and gone tomorrow<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">A wave tossed in the ocean<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">A vapor in the wind<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Still You hear me when I&#8217;m calling<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lord, You catch me when I&#8217;m falling<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cAnd You&#8217;ve told me who I am<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">I am Yours<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Not because of who I am<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">But because of what You&#8217;ve done<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Not because of what I&#8217;ve done<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">But because of who You are\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The final thing I know about the Lord\u2019s hands? He has inscribed us on their palms (Isaiah 49:16)\u2014in the form of nail scars from the Cross.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cLord, thank You for the oceans and the heavens You\u2019ve created. Thank You that even though we are mere human handbreadths, You love us, lead us and spread Your hands out to die for us, because we are Yours.
