God reminded me of this song perhaps because of the huge division that our country is displaying at the present time. My heart breaks to see the disunity and unsettledness all over the land. He is my teacher of wisdom—He is your teacher of wisdom… He will teach us to understand the distinct differences between the word knowledge and the word wisdom.

Knowledge in the dictionary refers to the accumulation of facts, and wisdom refers to the proper use of facts. We can have all the knowledge in the world and have a relative high IQ, without applying wisdom to what we know—it can be very dangerous. For example: In the summer time in our area in Northern California, we have many poisonous rattlesnakes that can be deadly if they bite us. Along with that information, we also have another snake in our area that resembles the rattlesnake, which is the gopher snake. They both coil up, but the one making the rattling sound is the poisonous snake; having this information is knowledge, but wisdom tells us to keep clear of it.

In Proverbs 9, verse 10 we read, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” This verse doesn’t mean to be afraid of the Lord; it means to respect the Lord—to be in awe of Him. When we reject the Lord then we reject the idea of God, and we can choose to do the most ridiculous things. If we don’t fear our Lord, it doesn’t matter how smart or how educated we are. This is what I see in the division of our country today.

When I’ve made my own decisions in life without trusting God’s wisdom, the outcome was not good. However, God’s grace turned it all around for His glory. God’s way is always the best—He likes to surprise us with a whole different direction that our knowledge can’t even begin to comprehend.

“Lord, fill us up with Your wisdom.
