Cultivating Awe and Reverence for God, Day 6<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

Light<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

One of the best ways I know of to deepen our awe and reverence for God is to take a good, hard look at Creation. We are only vaguely aware of what went on during those six days. Some of us can recite what took place each day\u2014but most of us can\u2019t. Even with the Bible open in front of us, we barely perceive what God actually did when He created.<\/span><\/p>\n

I went looking throughout the internet to get more information on what little I already knew about light before I wrote this. Unless you have studied physics, don\u2019t waste your time\u2014it was pretty much gobbledy-gook to me. I even went to the sites for kids, which were only slightly more helpful.<\/span><\/p>\n

Picture it: the earth was without form, and void. \u201cWithout form, and void\u201d means a formless, chaotic mess, a waste, a worthless thing, emptiness and desolation, of no purpose, and for nothing. There was no arrangement of anything; whatever was there was disorderly and confused. There was no beauty, only darkness\u2014and this darkness wasn\u2019t merely the absence of light, but was tangible and thick, as if you could cut it. But then, God began to bring order out of chaos, as He continues to do today. It is a normal process of His; it\u2019s just what He does. That\u2019s what creation is: making nothing into something.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then picture the Holy Spirit of God hovering, which means He was \u201csweeping\u201d or \u201cmoving\u201d, or even \u201cfluttering and vibrating\u201d or \u201cquivering\u201d. He was not being still, watching. The Holy Spirit was active as God spoke, ready to bring to pass all that God said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then, God spoke: \u201cLet there be light.\u201d<\/em> From what I learned in my internet research, it all happened very quickly, because light moves the fastest in a void. (It slows down in water and air, or whenever it passes through anything.) That\u2019s it\u2014that\u2019s all God had to do\u2014just say the words, and it was so.<\/span><\/p>\n

Remember, the sun was not created until the fourth day. He just made light from nothing, and there it was, not a sun, but light.<\/span><\/p>\n

When He made light, he made real the concepts we live with every day but have no knowledge of. Light bends, refracts, reflects, and diffuses; it comes in waves of different lengths, some of which we can see, some which are seen only by certain animals, and some which nothing can see (except Him, no doubt); light does not only come from the sun but in fact God has made some of His creatures able to create their own light.<\/span><\/p>\n

God Himself considers His act of creation as proof of His lordship. \u201cFor thus says the Lord, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain [same word as without form and void], Who formed it to be inhabited; I am the Lord, and there is no other\u2019\u201d<\/em> (Isaiah 45:18).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLord, we worship You for Your wisdom and power that created all this so that we would have a place to inhabit. As You said, it is good. Amen.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
