\u201cSo I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.\u201d <\/em>Matthew 17:16<\/span><\/p>\n

Mustard Seed Faith<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

I sometimes falter in the knowledge of my shortcomings on this spiritual journey.\u00a0 It seems to me I should be so much further along.\u00a0 I would think I would be more mature and cease to fall into these same niggling sins yet again. It seems to me that Jesus deserves better than I am giving.<\/span><\/p>\n

I read the story of Jesus healing the epileptic boy in Matthew 17 after the failure of the disciples to accomplish much of anything. That would be me. Why can\u2019t I do this? Why this failure? Well, here\u2019s the thing.\u00a0 No matter how spiritual I may be, it\u2019s not my fasting or praying or holy living that accomplishes anything.\u00a0 (Verse 21 is not in some translations.)<\/span><\/p>\n

It is faith in God that moves mountains. (Verse 20) It is a faith that knows who He is and all that He alone can do. It is His will, not mine. It is His power. It is His glory.<\/span><\/p>\n

Listen to the words of the old hymn, “The Solid Rock”*:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy hope is built on nothing less<\/span>
\nThan Jesus’ blood and righteousness;<\/span>
\nI dare not trust the sweetest frame,<\/span>
\nBut wholly lean on Jesus’ name.<\/span>
\nOn Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;<\/span>
\nAll other ground is sinking sand.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

This thought strangely encourages me because I know I am not a great prayer warrior. I rarely fast. I am spiritually weak and vulnerable. There is a sweet relief and a great hope in knowing it\u2019s not up to me. Whew! God Himself will do the doing of it. Will I believe Him for it?\u00a0 That is all that is required.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFather, what a God You are! Thank You for a grace that abounds. May we grasp who You are and in that faith and confidence see You move among us. All for Your glory. Amen.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
