Too Many Bosses<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Part 2<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

Yesterday we saw how it would be impossible to adequately serve many bosses in a workplace, just as it would be futile to attempt to serve many gods as the Greeks did (and as many people do today.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Please don\u2019t take offense as I make comparisons between the One True God and mortal men who would be our leaders in worldly matters. There is, in fact, no comparison between the Divine and His creation, for He is ever above and beyond all He has made. However, we can see this comparison as a parable of sorts.<\/span><\/p>\n

In my career, I have served some unlikeable, angry, unreasonable men and women. Unlike those workplace bosses, our God makes it easy for us to serve Him. For the purposes of this devotional parable, I will call God my Boss.<\/span><\/p>\n

My Boss offers rest; He doesn\u2019t demand it or force it, but He offers it. He knows when I am tired, knows when I need to back off from the demands on my time. He knows when I\u2019m feeling weak and uncertain, fearful, or sorrowful. I can get away simply by coming to Him. \u201cCome to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest\u201d<\/em> (Matthew 11:28).<\/span><\/p>\n

He teaches me how to do my work, offering continuing education in a gentle, humble way. \u201cTake My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls\u201d<\/em> (Matthew 11:29). Furthermore, my Boss never asks too much of me. \u201cFor My yoke is easy and My burden is light\u201d<\/em> (Matthew 11:30).<\/span><\/p>\n

My Boss assists me in my work. He gives me strength, new motivation, and a fresh vision as needed. If I\u2019m unwilling or unable to continue, He can assign my duties to someone else. He knows when to give me more or less responsibility based on my faithfulness to carry out what He has already asked, or when new needs arise.<\/span><\/p>\n

My Boss gives general instructions that cover pretty much everything required of me (\u201clove one another\u201d), but will also whisper special words to me according to the moment. He is never too busy or unavailable to answer questions, and never impatient. He shows up every day, and never leaves me to figure it out alone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And this is a mere humanization of Him. Let it be stated emphatically that He is so much more than a good Boss. He is our Father\u2014we are His offspring, the work of His hands. And we are thus so much more than \u201cworkers\u201d under a \u201cboss\u201d\u2014we are children, chosen vessels, co-workers with Jesus in the kingdom works of God.<\/span><\/p>\n
