He Hears Our Prayers

“Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; And attend to the voice of my supplications. In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, For You will answer me.” Psalm 86:6-7

Monday through Friday at work I have my online calendar set up to remind me to pray for specific people. A reminder pops up every hour, and when it does I stop what I’m doing and purposely pray for them and whoever else the Lord brings to my mind and/or heart at that time.

Today is the day I routinely pray for one of my children, but as I start to pray I say to the Lord, “I don’t really know what to pray—so I’ll pray what I often do—that You show Yourself more fully to them, open their eyes and ears to see and hear You, and their hearts to receive Your love.”

And then comes the Smile from heaven and the peace that passes all understanding, as we read in Philippians 4:6-7. He answers me: “My child, don’t you think that’s what I’m doing in this situation? I have heard your prayers and I am giving the parties involved an opportunity to respond, to be set free” (Isaiah 44:22 NLT).

I sat there utterly amazed. In all the busyness and craziness of the world, my Abba Father takes time to reassure me:

  1. His eyes aren’t, nor have they ever been, off this child.
  2. He hears a mother’s heartfelt prayers.
  3. He loves us all more than we could ever begin to imagine.

“And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him” (1 John 4:16).

Thank You, Lord, for the gift of knowing You hear and attend to our prayers and that Your love for us is limitless. Amen.
