“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to Him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”  Matthew 6:25-34 NLT

Lilies of the Field

I was going through some emails at work the other day and found this one. It was originally written to a small group of women who met together during lunch and did Bible Study for a season.

Can’t seem to get the “lilies of the field,” from Matthew 6:28-30 off my mind. Reminds me of a Ralph Waldo Emerson quote—“The earth laughs in flowers.” Praying you are neither spinning nor toiling today, ladies (Matthew 6:28 NKJV); as you look to the One who created these beautiful flowers may you be filled with laughter, knowing in your heart of hearts, all is well. Have a beautiful week ladies—you are the beloved of the Creator of the Universe.

Today as I sit at my home computer worrying about several family members and recent events, I am again reminded that my worrying will not add a single moment to my life (Matthew 6:27), and it may actually shorten it rather considerably. I have asked for prayer from a close circle of beloved prayer warriors and am going to leave the outcome to all the things going on in God’s hands exactly where they belong.

So I speak these same words to you, beloved sisters, praying God meets you exactly where you are and need to be met today.

Father God, thank You for the reminder of our value and to seek Your Kingdom above all else, as You take care of whatever big or small things are going on in our lives. Amen.
