“Do not be afraid! Take your stand [be firm and confident and undismayed] and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The LORD will fight for you while you [only need to] keep silent and remain calm.” Exodus 14:13-14 (Amplified Bible)

Keep Silent and Remain Calm

I love how the Lord starts working on your heart, step by step showing you areas in your life that need work. For me, rarely (usually because I wasn’t listening prior) does He just slam something in my face.

I’ve been anything but silent and calm lately. I’ve had to apologize for rude, angry words on a daily basis for the last several weeks. Although there’ve been many stressors during that time, they don’t give me license to be ugly.

I’ve been afraid and running, trying to solve things on my own, rather than having faith, standing firm and seeing what the LORD wants to do, the victory He wants to bring.

It got so bad I thought I’d need to be on a “speaking fast” for several days, but it’s amazing how many questions an adult loved one kept asking me after I told them I needed to be silent for awhile—nodding only goes so far!

Since I couldn’t be away from people, I asked the Lord what He wanted me to do. He brought Thumper the li’l rabbit from Bambi to my mind. After he stuck his foot in his mouth again one day, his mother asked Thumper, “What did your father tell you this morning?” He replies, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothin’ at all.” So, I set about to do just that. I have failed several times, but am definitely getting better.

Between two loved ones, there’ll be three surgeries in my family in the month of July. I’m a little dismayed. There are some relationship issues going on with another one where I’m fearful of the outcome. God keeps telling me: “Keep silent, remain calm and I’ll fight for you.”

Is He telling you the same thing? Are there areas, as with the people of Israel, where the world is crashing down on you and you see no way to escape? Keep silent, remain calm and see the Lord’s salvation. Are you being attacked personally and wanting to fight back, but have no godly reply to give? Keep silent, remain calm and God will fight for you. Are you afraid situations in your life, or your loved ones’ lives, are not going to turn out the way you think they should? Trust God, keep silent, remain calm, and see the end as the Lord intends it to be.

“Father God, help us to keep silent, remain calm and see Your salvation in our situations. Help us to leave the fighting up to You, trusting You for the outcomes. Amen.”
