“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18

Sorrows

Do you ever have a day, or more likely, a partial day when sorrow can overtake you? Something you are facing right now, or something painful from the past? Of course you have. I don’t believe any of us have never had sorrow touch our life. Just now, I accidentally typed “torch our life” instead of “touch our life.” As I corrected my error, a thought was triggered: “Wow, that is possible if we allow ourselves to dwell in that sorrow.”

Over time, sorrow can wear you down. Even Christ followers are not immune to the pain and agony of sorrow. Our mind may be saying what we KNOW, that “God is in control, and everything will be ok. I have peace and joy because I am trusting in God.” However, sometimes our body does not BELIEVE what our mind says that we KNOW.

We say with our mouth that we believe and trust God. Our mind knows that is the right thing to do. But when our heart and soul struggle with unbelief and lack of trust, our body may physically act out, demonstrating that we don’t really believe what we know to be true.

Charles Spurgeon said, “Our sorrows are all, like ourselves, mortal. There are no immortal sorrows for immortal souls. They come—but blessed be God, they also go. Like birds of the air, they fly over our heads, but they cannot make their abode in our souls. We suffer today, but we shall rejoice tomorrow.” What a beautiful truth.

God’s Word tells us that God keeps track of our sorrows, collects our tears in His bottle, and records every one of them in His book. He tells us to fear (worry) not, He knows us by name, and calls us His own. He never forgets us and has carved us upon the palms of His hands. He is not willing that any should perish because He wants us with Him forever. Imagine. Almighty God desires our presence with Him. He lovingly reminds us that our sorrows are only temporary, and someday He will wipe away every tear.

“When my soul is weary with sorrow, strengthen me according to Your Word” (Psalm 119:28).

“Lord, guide us to the promises in Your Word when sorrows come upon us and overtake us. Remind us that blessings will come upon us and overtake us if we obey You (Deuteronomy 28:2). Fill our hearts with comfort and joy through reading Your Word. I bid farewell to my worries and fears as I feel Your amazing love for me.”
