“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

“…being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6

Weary? Welcome!

Today, I just woke up tired. Not just physically tired, but mentally and spiritually tired. Tired of trying on my own. Tired of always feeling like my way is failing. But I guess that is really where He wants us, right? I knew I didn’t even have the energy to write today unless the words and work came from Him.

The Word hidden in our hearts is so wonderful, especially on days like this, because He gently reminded me of the first verse above. He invited me to just come and rest, tell Him all the things He already knows—to really lay it all on Him, because He can take it! How I want to be a better mother, use the gifts He gave me more faithfully, be a wife my husband is more than happy to come home to every day. How I want to walk in freedom in the areas He has freed me in!

The second verse above is my reminder that He has begun a good work in you and me. He is not giving up on us, even when we even want to give up on ourselves.

He is encouraging me today to just be. Just walk through my day doing the next thing that He created me to do with His power. He has paid it all and will continue to reveal in each of us the areas in which He wants to grow us. God not only sees us as a “work in progress” but also fully righteous and perfected as we will be on that day when our dear Savior returns.

“..all you who labor and are heavy laden…” During my study of this verse, David Guzik explained that He is calling those who sense they need to come to Him to relieve their need instead of living in self-sufficiency. He goes on to explain that “labor” implies the burdens I take on myself while “heavy laden” implies the burdens others put upon us.

He promises that if I am experiencing one or the other, or both, draining states, He WILL give me—and you—REST!

I hope that as I am being encouraged seeking these truths, that you also are encouraged. Bring every detail of your life today to Him and remember that He will give you rest, and He will continue to work good in you!

“Dear heavenly Father, thank You for loving me enough to give me Your Word that refreshes and encourages. Help us remember to run to You daily for the rest we need. I am grateful that You are not finished with me yet or giving up on me, even when I give up on myself.”
