“…I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known Your faithfulness to all generations.” Psalm 89:1 ESV

 Worship

I woke up singing the words to “I Could Sing of Your Love Forever” at “0-dark thirty” this morning. It was a pretty great way to start the day! With longing, I started thinking about the time when I will literally be singing of His love forever, for all eternity, without a hundred random thoughts running through my head, without the interruption of the never-ending to-do list and without any trace of worry, resentment, unforgiveness, or bitterness to mar it. I want to worship as the twenty-four elders who fall down before Him do, casting their crowns, proclaiming His worthiness to receive glory, honor and power (Revelation 4:9-11).

The more I thought about it, though that day will be incredible, I think God is delighted with the worship I bring Him now. When I push aside random thought #97 and continue to sing; when I wonder if I should make my shopping list (after all, there are 24-hour grocery stores and we’re out of food) yet continue to write these words; when I tell the fear I am carrying about one of my children to step aside and I continue to worship the Creator of said child because He knows exactly what He is doing in their lives—the Lord is pleased with my choices and they usher in the ability to open my heart and let God set me free.Free from the condemnation of the enemy or myself.

Here and now—in the good and the bad, the joy and the pain—when I sing of the steadfast love of the LORD and make His faithfulness known to all generations, not only am I worshipping God, but I am also testifying of His love. I may be shaken by events happening around me, I may not understand or want them, but over and over again He has proven His faithfulness to me. As I chose to worship Him in the midst of whatever is going on, I am leaving a legacy of faith for my kids, co-workers, neighbors and even strangers, that prayerfully makes a difference not only in the here and now, but in the eternity to come.

“Father God, thank You for the times You wake us up with praise and worship in our hearts and on our lips. Help us set aside our to-do lists, our cares and our concerns as we choose to focus on You. May we always point others to You with lives of worship. Amen.”
