“Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” Luke 12:27

A Sight For Sore Eyes

The day after a horrific thunderstorm of hail and rain, my husband and I took a walk up the road behind our house and were surprised and delighted to see several pockets of these beautiful flowers growing in the midst of the Carr Fire burn scar. The mystery is how these flowers ever got there in the first place because they had never been seen in that area prior to the fire. Although new green growth had been slowly taking place, it was a quite a sight to behold the cheery, vibrant colors of these flowers after months of looking at dead trees and charred landscape. It seemed impossible that these seemingly fragile plants could be standing, let alone thriving after the onslaught of the harsh pounding they received just the day before.

It reminded me that when we look to Jesus, He truly is a sight for our sore eyes, especially in the midst of our dark, sin-sick world which seems to grow bleaker every day. Without Him we would not have the hope of a new and living way (Hebrews 10:20) and the abundant life (John 10:10) that only He can give us, both now and throughout all eternity. He has shown me that, like those flowers, He continually does new things in my life, and I can thrive for His glory even amidst the devastating storms of life.

“Lord, thank You for the many ways You speak to us! Thank You for the beauty in Your creation reminding us of Your constant care and goodness, to encourage and give us hope in these dark times. May we brighten and bring Your hope and joy to the corner of the world where You have placed us. Amen!”
