“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Romans 8:37

Assurance

I approached the battleground and looked over the scorched earth. I inhaled the acrid smoke rising from previous skirmishes and saw the scarred landscape. This oft-fought battle faced me once again. I remembered every blow, past wounds throbbed, and defeats were remembered. I groaned and wrestled with doubts and fears as once again I prepared to enter into the struggle.

I spoke silently to God, “Why do I have to fight this same battle over and over again”?

In my spirit He quickened His answer. “You don’t. Have I not already given you the victory? Have I not shown You who I am? Are you not free? And yet you choose to go back to the old lies and the tired ways of your own insecurities. The battle has been won once and for all. It is already done. Do you believe this?”

“Yes, Lord, I believe. I remember that glorious day of victory when I was astounded by the work You had done in me. I remember my celebration of joy and thanksgiving when I sang ‘my chains are gone, I’ve been set free!’ I believe what You have said of me.”

And then He spoke to my very soul, “Then act like it.”

Something settled in me. Something moved within. There was a shift. Peace bathed me and quiet assurance arose. It is already done. I have already won. “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable” (Romans 11:29). He does not change and He does not move. Victory is certain.

I don’t know what your battle is. I don’t know the things that have battered you since childhood, but this I do know: our power to overcome any obstacle or challenge is found in His redemptive work in the core of our being. We are not who we were. We are loved and gifted and more than able for any situation that may arise.

Don’t look back. Look at the One who has loved and enabled and equipped you. Act like the godly woman He has created you to be, holy and fearless and full of faith. Walk in His love. Walk in His truth. Walk in His victory.

“Father, You are flawless. You are matchless. You are changing us from glory to glory into the image of Your beloved Son. Our faith is in who You are and the certainty of every word You have spoken to our hearts. You are the way we take. You are the truth we put our trust in. You are life indeed. To the praise of Your glory! Amen.”
