“But I am poor and needy; Yet the LORD thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God.” Psalm 40:17

O My God

What started as out this morning as the statement, “O my God! I don’t know what to do! Help me!” became, “O my God, You are my Rock and my Redeemer! O my God, You are my Strength and my Shield! O my God, You are my Refuge and Fortress!”

It then became “O my God, You are my child’s Protector, Provider and Peace! O my God, You are my child’s Fortress and Redeemer! O my God, you are my child’s Shield and Buckler! O my God, You are my child’s Right Hand! O my God, You are mighty to save!”

As I praised who I knew Him to be for myself, I was able to transfer those same qualities to who He is for my child. In my statement, I didn’t realize I was pretty much saying what David said thousands of years ago in Psalm 71:12: “O God, do not be far from me; O my God, make haste to help me!” He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, for all of us. We can claim who He is, the truth of who He is in the situations we are going through right now. Just as David recalled a few verses later in verse 22: “Then I will praise You with music on the harp, because You are faithful to Your promises, O my God. I will sing praises to You with a lyre, O Holy One of Israel.” I know His promises are true.

What started as a cry from a burdened mother’s heart, turned into worship of the One who bears all our burdens.

I pray whatever you are going through right now, you are able to give praise and worship to God, whoever He is and needs to be to You today.

“Thank You, Father God, for hearing my statement, and rather than condemning me, by Your Spirit, You helped me to turn it into praise. Amen.”
