“Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will.” Matthew 10:29

Falls Apart

Have you ever felt like you were holding six spinning plates, and they were going faster and faster, and you realized there was no way you weren’t going to drop at least some of them? That’s how I’m feeling right now. As I cried and cried out to the Lord this morning—I gave those plates to Him (again) and told Him I couldn’t hang on, they were all gonna fall and either He was gonna have to catch them or they were gonna shatter on the ground.

I looked over on my desk to a small paper plate with this quote written on it: “When everything falls apart, God has all the pieces to make something better.” I don’t know where it came from—I would imagine the paper plate was in my car and when I heard or saw the quote I grabbed it and wrote it down. All I know is I have looked at it almost daily for months.

Even though there are several areas in my life that seem like they are falling apart, I know this quote is true. I know that in God’s timing He is going to reveal something incredible—something I couldn’t even imagine before.

While contemplating what to do or how to respond when it (whatever it might be in your life) falls apart, I was drawn to today’s verse. Even though I see “falling apart” as unraveling or losing our mind or whatever, the Lord showed me my focus was on the wrong thing. I do believe as things are unraveling, God is taking the yarn as it were and knitting something better. I do believe our family will come out stronger and more like Jesus on the other side. He showed me that I need to focus on the words in the verse separately, and then lovingly showed me that it’s not the fall, it’s the Father’s will that I need to focus on.

The “apart from your Father’s will” in various versions is: without your Father knowing it, outside your Father’s care, without your Father’s consent and finally, without your Father. If a tiny, common and very inexpensive bird doesn’t fall outside of the Father’s care and consent, how much more will He watch out for you and I who were worth the blood of His precious Son?

“Father God, thank You for the reminder that no matter what is going on in our lives, You know about it, You care about it—and even if it falls apart, You can make something better out of it. Amen.”
