“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” 1 Peter 1:3-5

Kept By the Power of God

This verse is so wonderfully comforting. There is no greater power in the whole universe than God’s, and especially the power of His love. I’m amazed and overwhelmed knowing His affections for me. I can absolutely trust Him to keep me by His power.

I certainly believe God and take Him at His word, but then why do I fear and worry like the old hymn says: “Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love.” I trust Him, but I don’t trust me. Then my prayer which is later in the song: “Let Thy goodness like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee.”* I can be confident He is able to fulfill what He has promised, and this “being kept by His power” is certainly a promise as this verse says.

This is revolutionary transforming knowledge causing deep confidence that enables me to live out the calling He has intended for me (and each of us) without fear and condemnation. His powerful, dead-raising love, is able to keep us in His will, when we ask, looking unto Jesus our Keeper.

Realizing we have an inheritance far greater than any earthly possession and a Savior that loves far beyond human pain, we can take Him at His Word when we pray to be kept by His power. Anything this world has to offer is rubbish compared to His heavenly inheritance, this consuming knowledge that also can keep the eyes of our hearts focused on Him. Our hope is continual and living. It won’t go away!

So how do I live this out? First, by spending time in prayer and reading my Bible daily. Then I take hold of the freedom to love without hesitation, obey without shame or fear, and step out of my comfort zone into His adventure. I glorify Him regardless of opinions (including my own) and do the right thing even when the world’s agendas and ideas are different. This is a powerful love which results in the huge blessing of knowing I am in His will and being kept by the power of God.

“Dear Lord, thank You for rescuing us into Your living hope with an incorruptible future that won’t fade away, knowing confidently we are kept by Your Holy Power! We praise you with our lives! Amen.”
