“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.” Matthew 13:45-46

Valuable

While meandering among a group of kiosks, I passed a small jewelry display and noticed a necklace; I lingered, admiring it. It was simple: a hand-stamped medallion and pearl hanging on a chain with the word “Unshakeable” stamped into the medallion. That word drew my eyes like a magnet; I was drawn to it and intimidated by it at the same time.

As I moved toward the next kiosk I heard God whisper, “Go back.” I went back and purchased the necklace. I slipped it on, but couldn’t stop thinking about the word on the medallion. Why was I wearing this word around my neck, because I knew I was not unshakeable!

I took some time to sit with the Lord and asked Him why this word…why this necklace? While I fiddled with the medallion like I expected His voice to come from it, the pearl caught my attention. The verse above is what first came to my mind, yet I felt there was more. God spoke to my heart that yes, that verse…but He also said that I am like that pearl of great price to Him, too—that God had, in effect, “sold all He had” for me when He sent His Son to die for my sins. I became that pearl of great price because He gave His best for me.

He told my heart that He wanted me to have the necklace to remember that I am that pearl of great price to Him, and that I am not unshakeable, but He is.

“Father-God, thank You for Your reminders of how precious we are to You. Thank You for being Unshakeable yesterday, today, forever. Amen.”
